Why this site's numbers look different

The official wiki is the encyclopedia, and it is very good at it — 3,590 articles, 5,802 files, 123 active editors. This site does not try to be a second copy of it. It does the four things an encyclopedia is not shaped to do, and all four are visible on the pages rather than described here.

What the official wiki does

It holds the canonical entry for almost everything in Ashenfall, and its coverage runs deep — some single pages pass 200,000 characters.

  • One value per fact, presented as settled
  • Long-form entries, written to be read top to bottom
  • No per-claim capture date printed on the page

What this site does

Four things the official assets are structurally not built to do:

  • Reconciliation — disagreeing sources shown row by row, never silently merged
  • Ledgers — filterable tables for platforms, armour sets and achievements instead of prose
  • Missable flags — marked where something cannot be recovered later
  • Evidence grade — first-party, secondary or community, labelled on the claim itself

Editor's note A single value would have been tidier. Where sources disagree we show the disagreement and date each side, because a merged number hides which source you are trusting.

What is RuneScape: Dragonwilds?

RuneScape: Dragonwilds is a co-op survival crafting game from Jagex, set on Ashenfall — a lost continent in the RuneScape universe where the dragons have woken. You gather, build, level skills and craft gear, and the continent's wild magic, Anima, is used for all of it: felling trees, breaking ore veins, escaping a fight. Up to four players share a world, and a dedicated-server option exists for worlds that should stay up without a host.

It is not an MMO and not a version of RuneScape or Old School RuneScape. Jagex's help centre describes a standalone game you can play solo or in a small group, and every storefront caps online play at four players. Play it as a single-player survival game if you want to; nothing in the store listings requires a group.

The game left Early Access on 15 September 2026 and launched on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2 at the same time, the first time a RuneScape title has shipped on consoles. The 1.0 build added console support, crossplay and the Scorned Wilderness region, which closes out the first main storyline.

Coverage Two things are still open on this page as of 2026-09-17. No first-party page gives a day-level Early Access start, so that date stays in dispute. And no first-party page states a Switch 2 physical edition date, so that cell stays unread rather than answered. How this site checks a number

The Early Access start date is not one date

Two published sources and one internal record, four days apart. We are not picking a winner — we are showing which value came from where, so you can judge it yourself.

Not adjudicated. Jagex's own 1.0 post gives the month and not the day, so no first-party statement settles 15 versus 19 April. Both values stay on the page with their provenance. The 1.0 date has no such problem — Jagex's launch post and all four storefronts agree on 15 September 2026.

Editor's note This is the whole method in one block. The official wiki would print one date; we print the disagreement, the source behind each number, and the day we read it.

Four platforms, one table

The labels below are quoted from each platform's own store page. The official storefronts scatter them across four different pages; this is the same data in one place, with the source named per row.

Editor's note Note the “Not listed” cells. We mark what a source did not say, and we do not upgrade that into a negative claim. The Nintendo store lists a digital edition only, so “no physical on Switch 2” is not something this pass can state.

Quick answers

What people ask before buying

Is RuneScape: Dragonwilds the same game as RuneScape or Old School RuneScape?Disambiguation

No. It is a separate game that shares the RuneScape universe rather than a new version of either MMO. RuneScape and Old School RuneScape are the two long-running online games and remain separate products with their own subscriptions; Dragonwilds is a one-time-purchase survival crafting game set on a different continent, Ashenfall, with a different control scheme and no monthly fee.

Is RuneScape: Dragonwilds an MMO?Disambiguation

No. Every official storefront caps it at a small group rather than a shared world: Xbox lists online co-op for 2–4 players, Nintendo lists up to 4 players online, and Steam lists single-player alongside online co-op. You host a world for friends or join one through the in-game browser, and dedicated servers are supported for worlds that need to stay online.

When did RuneScape: Dragonwilds leave Early Access?

15 September 2026. Jagex's own launch post and all four storefronts give that date, and the console versions arrived on the same day rather than later. The Early Access start date is a separate question with two values in circulation, which is why it gets its own block on this page instead of a single line.

Is RuneScape: Dragonwilds free to play?Answer is no

No. There is no free version, no free trial and no subscription — it is a one-time purchase on every storefront, with a paid Digital Deluxe edition alongside the Standard one. Prices are listed per platform in the table above, each with the date we read it.

Can I play RuneScape: Dragonwilds solo?

Yes. Single-player is listed on every storefront — Steam lists Single-player, the PlayStation Store shows 1 player, and Nintendo lists single system play — so nothing requires you to bring a group. Multiplayer is optional rather than the default.

Does RuneScape: Dragonwilds have crossplay?

Yes. Jagex's 1.0 launch notes list crossplay as new in the launch build, and say a world can be enabled as crossplay each time it is hosted, including on dedicated servers. Nintendo's store page lists cross-platform play and Xbox lists Xbox cross-platform multiplayer and cross-platform co-op. No storefront spells out every possible pairing, so this site does not claim a complete matrix.

Is RuneScape: Dragonwilds on Game Pass?

The Xbox store page says so, in more than one way at once. It lists the game under Game Pass Premium, Game Pass PC and Game Pass Ultimate, and its Compare editions panel labels the Standard edition as included with Game Pass Premium, while the same page also prices it at $29.99. We transcribe all of those statements as published rather than merging them into one answer.

Is there a physical edition of RuneScape: Dragonwilds?

Yes, one has been announced. Jagex's help centre says physical Standard and Deluxe editions are coming later in 2026 for Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5, each with a disc in the box, and that retailers have begun listing pre-orders. No physical version is listed on the Nintendo store, and Jagex's FAQ does not name Switch 2, so that platform is left unanswered here.

Is RuneScape: Dragonwilds coming to Mac?Answer is no

No Mac version has been announced. Jagex's help centre states there are currently no planned dates for a Mac release, and the Steam store page lists Windows only. Steam Deck support is described by Jagex as possible in future but not a current focus.
